PAINT – MYSTIC COBRA – REPAIR MATERIAL REQUEST PROCESS – SVT MUSTANG COBRA ONLY

ISSUE

Ford Motor Company will produce two thousand (2000) 1996 SVT Mustang cobras painted with Mystic paint (code LF,). Production will begin on October 1 1995.

ACTION

If in-transit, warranty, or collision damage paint repair is necessary on mystic painted SVT Cobras, refer to the following process to obtain the needed paint materials.

VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS

The 1996 SVT (Special Vehicle Team) mustang cobra will have a number of changes from past models, one of which is a new available color named Mystic. Mystic paint contains mica that will change the base color (green) into multiple color variations depending one the viewing angle. The mica used in this color has special prioritary uses, requiring tight material control. The paint supplier (BASF) and Ford have special contractual agreements pertaining to the sale and distribution of products containing this material.

SELLING DEALERS

Special Vehicle Team dealers will be the only dealers that will sell this vehicle. Eight hundred twenty five (825) SVT dealers are located in North America.

PAINT REPAIR ACTIONS

Due to the limited number of vehicles built (20000 and the amount of paint material available, the repairing facility (dealer or independent) must fax the required information on the form shown in Fig. 1 to the FCSD Job 1 Hotline 1-800-329-3377).

FCSD JOB 1 HOTLINE RESPONSIBILITIES

The FCSD Job 1 Hotline will verify the dealer information and VIN number and forward this to Automotive Refinish Technologies (ART) located in Atlanta, GA for verification by a local BASF representative.

BASF REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

The local BASF representative will receive the faxed vehicle information and visually verify on site the amount of basecoat color needed for the repair within 24 hours. BASF will contact ART to approve the needed volume of basecoat color and provide a list of local jobbers for the shop to obtain their support materials (primers and clear). The representative will also counsel the technician on the repair if they are not a current BASF material user.

AUTOMOTIVE REFINISH TECHNOLOGIES (ART) RESPONSIBILITIES

ART will supply and package the basecoat color for shipment. They will include all applicable repair instructions and bill the repair facility at the same time.

WARRANTY REPAIRS

This same process applies for a warranty repair as well as a collision repair.
